But surely Tintin was a reporter 😉
Would have to say it'd be Thompson and Thomson

definitely the best dressed.... and had a cute dog snowy!

coincidently watched a very funny film yesterday about a detective.... Mindhorn written and played by Julian Barratt from the Mighty Boosh!

It was cracking - a fil about a character from a TV series like a spoof Adam Adamant but had to investigate a real case 25 years later....

Partly cos they've spawned the unfunny and thread-ruining Perchanski meme on this forum.

Bryant and May from the Christopher Fowler novels.

Credit where its due, Spot was the brains in that partnership.

Does Quincy count.in this list even though technically he was a pathologist, but he did all.the detective work?

Re: Who is the best fictional detective?
Everyone suggesting Bosch, if you're doing so having watched the TV series (excellent as it is) you should really give the novels by Michael Connelly a go. There's a fair few to plough through.
Also Charlie Parker, from the John Connolly novels is excellent.

How can you say that Yank detectives are crap?

Solving murders whilst; on a horse, blind, fat, dressed in a shabby mac. shagging Susan Saint James, living in a caravan with your Dad or with the aid of magic - none of these are easy tasks.

I'm not sure VIC was a detective, Nursie.

I think you mean DUTCH WAGENBACH or CLAUDETTE WYMS

Re: Who is the best fictional detective?
Re. John Hannah as Rebus.

Several years ago I asked Ian Rankin (a v nice bloke) about this. He wasn't happy about it but said JH's management company had bought options on some of the books. He then said that that agreement had ended and Ken Stott would be taking the part.

For a fictional detective try Bernie Gunther in the books by Phillip Kerr, especially those set in Berlin during WWII. A more brutal Phillip Marlowe.
